Walking the C2C Trail: from CP6 to CP7

Our second leg of walking the Coast-to-Coast Trail, from CP6 to CP7, took place on Sun 2019.09.22, a day after we completed our first leg from CP5 to CP6.

This time we started from CP6 Luxus Hill Park just before daybreak as we did before, and walked the short 3 km distance along clean and well kept Park Connector Network (PCN) pathways to CP7 Sengkang Riverside Park, near the Sengkang Hockey Stadium. The leisurely walk took us about forty-five minutes.

Our first leg of walking the C2C Trail: CP5 to CP6

This morning I posted a log of our first walking journey on the Coast-to-Coast Trail in Singapore two years ago on Sat 21Sep2019. We started from Checkpoint 5 near our apartment block and walked about six and a half km to Checkpoint 6 in a north-easterly direction.

A new Title for this blog

Today, I have changed the title of this blog from "My Bicycle Rides" to "My Walks and Bicycle Rides". This is because I will be writing posts about some long walks that I take from time to time.

Starting next week, I will begin a series of posts about walking along the Coast-to-Coast Trail (C2C) in Singapore. Each walk is about 5 to 10 km and covers two or more checkpoints along the trail, walking mostly along PCNs, with Part One beginning roughly from the mid-point in AMK-Bishan Park heading north-east all the way to Coney Island, with a short segment to Rowers Bay, followed by Part Two from AMK-Bishan Park heading south-west towards Jurong Lake Gardens.

A PCN ride I took four years ago

I took a two hour ride from my daughter's house in AMK to Punggol Waterway Point one sunny morning back in late May 2017. The photos have been kept in my mobile phone all these years and it's only today that I found the time, and determination to overcome procrastination, to post it in this blog.

Coast-to-Coast Trail: CP7 to CP10

CP10 Rower's Bay is the last Checkpoint along the Coast2Coast Trail. Oddly enough, it is not located on a route after CP9 Coney Island but instead, it branches out from CP7 Sengkang Hockey Stadium (Sengkang Floating Wetlands).

From Sengkang Hockey Stadium, via Sengkang West Way, Jalan Kayu, Picadilly Road, Seletar Aerospace Drive and West Camp Road, it took us almost two hours to walk to Rower's Bay, a distance of 7.5 km

C2C Trail CP7 to CP10: 7.50 km

At 11:00 hrs, after walking about 5 km, we entered the final stretch of the Seletar West Park Connector. We had another 2.3 km to go before arriving at Rower's Bay.

We ended the trail for the day by taking a short 0.7 km walk from CP9 to the Punggol Settlement Bus Stop

We started from CP7 at 0944 hrs

1000 hrs Walking northwards along the Punggol Park Connector, with the Punggol River on our left

1013 hrs, after 2km of walking, we came across some morning glory creepers on the river embankment.

1013 hrs, by the banks of the Punggol River.

1021 hrs, 2.5 km, crossing the Jewel Bridge over to the north side of the river.

1028 hrs, 2.8 km, lots of willow trees.

1054 hrs, 4.7 km, reached Checkpoint 8.

After yesterday's walk from CP5 (AMK-Bishan Park) to CP6 (Luxus Hill Park), we continued with the second leg of our C2C Trail journey today by walking from CP6 to CP7 (Sengkang Riverside Park, also known as the Floating Wetlands). It was a leisurely walk over a distance of about three km.

We started our journey from CP6 at about 06:26 hrs and arrived at CP7 at 07:12 hrs

06:49 hrs A long deserted road ahead

06:50 hrs Another 1.8 km to go

07:12 hrs Yay! We have reached CP7 Sengkang Riverside Park after walking for 46 minutes

07:13 hrs We decided to spend some time exploring the Sengkang Riverside Park nearby

07:14 hrs This is the bridge that brings us over to the Sengkang Floating Wetlands in the middle of the Punggol river.

07:17 hrs Lots of Piai Raya ferns, acrostichum aureum

Piai Raya ferns are usually found in brackish waters on the land side of mangrove swamps. Traditionally, the leaves can be shredded and pounded to make a poultice for treatment of boils, ulcers and even snake bites.

The southern-most tip of Johore state is Tanjung Piai, named after this medicinal fern.
